BETWEEN TREES
Film Photography — Ossabaw Hammock
// on this work //
Spanish moss is not parasitic — it takes nothing from the tree. It is an epiphyte, gathering moisture and nutrients from the air itself. It is simply there, draped and grey-green, moving in salt air, turning a grove of ordinary palms and oaks into something ancient. Looking through these silhouetted trees at the marsh beyond is the view the island offers as its greeting. The layers of depth here — near dark, far pale — are the grammar of this particular landscape.
